Nonsense based on a false claim
This story pivots on the claim that New World natives could not see Columbus' ships because they had no perceptual category for it. After a time, a wise shaman accomplished the breakthrough of seeing the ships and then told everyone else about them. In the same way, supposedly, we modern people do not see a number of supposedly real (paranormal) phenomena and need to rely on a spiritual leader to guide us to the ability to see them. But, the core claim is simply false, historically, physiologically, and experientially. Columbus himself reported in letters that natives fled the shoreline of newly discovered islands at the sight of his ships - hardly possible if they were unable to see them. The visual pathways in the brain do not simply discard or filter out novel inputs - to the contrary such are more likely to attract attention. And ahem each of us has had the experience of seeing something new for the first time... we may need to ask someone what the object's name or purpose...
The answers make sense!!
I absolutely loved this documentary better than The Secret. This film put it more in perspective from a logical scientific pov. There are so many books and films on this metaphysical subject, and this one ties in and actually is more thought provoking than all. I highly highly highly recommend this to everyone!!
Excellent
This is the second time I have seen this film. Although some of the narrative element (the story section, with animation) is a little cheesy, the film itself is absolutely brilliant.
